1968 Chevy II's had many parts that were only used in the one year. Here is one example of the 1968 unique parts.
Picture 1
This is the front view of the 1968 Clutch pedal under dash bracket. The brake pedal has a slightly different bend to it than the 1969-1973 style. Also notice it is larger to the passenger side.
Picture 2
This is the top view from the passenger side. You can see the date code stamped in the center of the bracket. Also take note of the clip which holds the clutch rod into the bracket.
Picture 3
This picture show a very easy way to tell the 1968 under dash bracket from the 1969-1974 brackets. It is totally different in shape.
Picture 4
This is a view from the driver's side. Take note of the bracket which is used to hold the heater control in the dash. The 1969-1973 assemblies do not have this bracket. Also, take note there is no neutral safety switch on the 1968 bracket.
Picture 5
This picture shows another difference is the gold bracket where the rod attaches to the brake pedal. It is square on top which is different than the 1969-1974 assemblies. If you look closely, notice the brake pedal has a very slight curve to it in the 1968 style where the 1969-1973 style is straight.
Picture 6
This is another view from the driver's side showing the small bracket and gold bracket.
Picture 7
This is a view from the passenger side underneath showing the brake light switch. I noticed a difference in the plastic round part that pushes in when the brake is not applied. It is hollow in the center.
Picture 8
This shows the spring which returns the brake pedal to the off position. The spring mounts to the outside of the brake bracket on the 1968 assembly which is different than the 1969-1974 assemblies. On those assemblies, the tab which holds the spring at the brake pedal is mounted between the gold bracket and the black brake pedal. On the 1968 style, this black tab mounts to the outside of the gold brake bracket. The spring will hit the bracket which holds the brake light switch if you mount it incorrectly.
Picture 9
Here's another difference. The nuts on the 1968 bracket are normal ordinary nuts which mount on the firewall side. The 1969-1974 uses a different style nut with kind of a washer at the base of the nut.
Picture 10
This clutch setup came out of a 1968 Nova 6 cylinder car. The clutch fork adjusting sleeve for the 6 cylinder cars is the same of the Big Block cars. The Upper pedal push rod measures 12 1/4 inches in length.
Picture 11
The is the z-bar from the 1968 6 cylinder Nova. It is the same as the small block z-bar. Take note of the hole position.

Another shot from the other side of the hole position of the 1968 z-bar.

This is the date code which is stamped on the top of the underdash bracket. Date is 3-05-68.
